As part of my return to New Zealand I’ve taken up a prestigious Royal Society of New Zealand Rutherford Discovery Fellowship. This gives me five years with a salary and some research funding to set up a research group in New Zealand. I’m planning to use this blog to tell everyone what it is I’m doing with all that tax payer money. Hopefully, everyone will agree that I’m worth half a standard backbencher MP ($141,800 p.a. not counting parliamentary perks and expenses; http://www.legislation.govt.nz/regulation/public/2011/0410/latest/whole.html#DLM4148117) . For information about the Fellowship see: http://www.royalsociety.org.nz/programmes/funds/rutherford-discovery/
I’ve recently been made an Associate Editor for my favorite journal Methods in Ecology and Evolution. I’m pretty excited about this development. I’m not sure that many people really know what it is that an Associate editor does so I’ll try and comment on how it works. Obviously, there are confidentiality issues here so I’ll only say general comments from my point of view nothing specific.
In addition, we’ve just shifted from the UK back towards home. With the inevitable consequence that we’ve left more friends scattered all over the globe. So a main purpose of this blog is to keep in contact with everyone. I seem to spend a lot of time thinking about FOOD and TENNIS – (I’ll try and tag these as well). My husband and I are both Scientists (of the Ecology/Botany variety) so I plan to write a few Blogs about SCIENCE (I’ll tag these any friends and family that are not that way inclined can ignore these bits)
